National Advisory Council on the Employment of Women (NACEW).

Please note that nominations are requested from the Department of Labour for suitable people for the National Advisory Council on the Employment of Women (NACEW).

Background Information:
NACEW is a non-legislative group established in 1967 that has as its primary role the provision of independent advice to the Minister of Labour on women’s employment issues. In this regard it is charged by its terms of reference with the following responsibilities:

  • To advise the Minister of Labour on matters referred by him/her concerning the employment of women
  • To express views and make recommendations as appropriate to the Minister on matters relating to the employment of women
  • To make representations or submissions as appropriate to public bodies such as Commissions of Inquiry subject to the approval of the Minister and
  • To promote the dissemination of information on the employment of women in New Zealand and overseas

In light of the above, nominees will need to have:

  • A demonstrated knowledge and commitment to issues related to the employment of women
  • Ability to commit sufficient time to the Council’s work
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals and groups with diverse backgrounds, cultural perspectives and political and social views
  • An understanding of political processes
  • Proven ability to lead and influence change at strategic level
  • A track record of results orientation and an outcome focus
  • Demonstrated judgment, tact and skills to work with a wide range of women and the political process

The Minister is also seeking to consider nominees who have some knowledge in the rural sectors and/or small and medium enterprises. Extra consideration will be given to women of Maori, Pacific and other non-European descent.

NACEW meets 4 times a year with up to 4 additional meetings of sub-committees. A nominal daily fee will be paid for preparing and attending Council meetings based on the Cabinet office recommended Fees Framework.
